2016 TOYOTA PRIUS: Prius, Toyota's first production gas-electric hybrid model, is on exhibit during the 2016 Chicago Auto Show, which includes the Prius Two, Two Eco, Three, Three Touring, Four and Four Touring. All models are front-wheel drive and powered by a 95-horsepower 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine that when combined together with its permanent magnet synchronous electric motor generates a total of 121-net horsepower. Linked to a continuously variable transmission, the 3,043 pound Prius rates as one of the most fuel-efficient gas-powered passenger car available in the U.S. today, scoring 50 mpg combined city/highway. The '16 Prius offers four performance modes: "Normal," "Power," Eco" and new "EV" that allows driving on battery power alone for short distances at low speeds. Toyota offers the dealer-installed PLUS performance accessory package for drivers who like to have fun in their Prius. The option adds 17-inch forged alloy wheels, low-profile 17-in. tires, seven-piece ground effects kit, track-tuned springs that lower the vehicle more than an inch, and rear stabilizer bar for flatter cornering. Advanced safety technologies add blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, hill start assist control, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, auto high beams, land departure alert with steering assist and full-speed dynamic radar cruise control. A paint palette of eight exterior colors, including a new shade, called Hypersonic Red. The 106.3-inch wheelbase helps provide Prius a smooth ride; the five-passenger room of a midsize sedan and up t 27.4-cu.ft.of cargo space with the rear seat down.
