2016 MERCEDES-BENZ SLK: The Mercedes-Benz SLK premium compact hardtop convertible sports car helped to usher in the modern retractable hardtop. For 2016, the third-generation SLK continues to be known for its distinctive retractable hardtop that transforms itself from a quiet, weather-tight coupe to a topless roadster (or back) in 20 seconds. All SLK models are rear-wheel drive and offered in SLK300, SLK350, and AMG SLK55 trim levels. The SLK300 replaces the SLK250 and is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 241-horsepower. It comes equipped with a nine-speed automatic. Stepping up to the SLK350 model gains a 3.5L V-8 engine with 302-hp, as well as a standard ECO Start/Stop system, seven-speed automatic and 18-inch five-spoke wheels. The top-tier SLK includes the Start/Stop technology, 18-inch AMG five-spoke rims, and packs a 5.5L V-8 that pumps out 415-hp with 398- lb. ft. The seven-speed automatic is standard on the AMG model, and it comes fitted with SpeedShift. While the standard roof panel is made of body-color polycarbonate plastic, an optional panorama roof features a tinted see-through panel, available with Magic Sky Control, in which the tinting of the transparent glass panel can be controlled by the driver or passenger. Standard features include mbrace2 in-vehicle tech suite, 5.8-in. high-mounted display screen, neck-proactive head restraints and staggered-width wheels and tires.
