2016 Mercedes-Benz SL

2016 MERCEDES-BENZ SL: Lighter and more rigid, with a sophisticated all-aluminum bodyshell, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz SL takes the meaning of the famous letters "SL" - super lightweight - quite literally. Trim levels include a new SL450 SL550, AMG SL63 and AMG SL65 variants, all two-passenger and rear-wheel drive convertibles. The SL450 is equipped with a 362-horsepower 3.0-liter V-6 biturbo, and the SL550 features a 5.5L V-8 that creates a healthy 449-hp. For even more thrills, the AMG SL63 packs a 6.2L V-8 that cranks out 577-hp and the ultimate AMG SL65 deliver a massive 621-hp and 738lb-ft of torque. Standard and only transmission for each engine is a fuel-saving seven-speed automatic gearbox. A revised front end wears a steeply raked radiator grille that harmonizes with the front in an A-wing design and the two power domes on the hood. Weight reduction across the board is one of the most outstanding design characteristics of the new SL, and continues a tradition that began 60 years ago. Most of the body panels are aluminum, while high-strength steel is used in the roof pillars. Overall, the new SL body is about 20 percent stiffer than the car it replaces. With the roof down, the electric wind deflector can be extended and retracted at the push of a button. Roll-over bar is fully integrated and not visible. All 2016 SL models come standard with Active Body Control, and available panoramic glass panel for the folding hardtop. Inside the new SL, a standard harman/kardon Logic 7 digital surround-sound system features award-winning FrontBass, in which the bass speakers are mounted in the front firewall so the two front frame members also serve as large bass boxes. Brilliant blue and design selenite gray mango are two new colors that are now available, and 19-inch rims in a sporty five-spoke design are now fitted standard.
