2016 FORD EXPLORER: The 2016 Ford Explorer is a mid-size, three-row sport utility vehicle with first-class quality and comfort. There are four series for 2016, including the Explorer Base, XLT, Limited, Sport and Platinum trim series. There is also a choice of engines, beginning with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, equipped with direct-injected, turbocharged and intercooler, enabling it to deliver an impressive 280-horsepower to the rear wheels. The 3.5L Ti-VCT V-6 dispenses 290-hp and the 3.5-L EcoBoost V-6 pushes the horsepower to an incredible 365. All the engines come equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the V-6 models are also available with SelectShift and intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that adds terrain management. Depending on the powertrain and when properly equipped, the Explorer has a 3,000 and 5000-lb towing capabilities. Visually, the Explorer incorporates a lower roof rack and new rear spoiler. Ford advertises that the Explorer is the first to install inflatable outboard rear seat belts and knee airbags for the front passenger. Due to popular request, the 18-inch painted aluminum wheels are now standard on the entry-level model. The Explorer Platinum becomes the first to offer the new audio system from Sony featuring a 500-watt amplifier with ClearPhase and LiveAcoustics technologies. In addition, an adaptable interior package has clever storage solutions and three rows of flexible seating for six or seven passengers. Impressive cargo volume numbers for all the family gear include 21.0 cu. ft. in the back of the third-row seating, a respectable 43.9 cu. ft. behind the middle row, and a spacious 81.7 cu. ft. behind the first row when the third and middle seat are down.
