2016 BMW i8 HYBRID: As the pinnacle of the BMW i lineup, the 2016 i8 Hybrid sports car is a visionary vehicle that can be viewed at the 108th annual Chicago Auto Show, Feb. 13-21, 2016. Constructed primarily from lightweight carbon fiber, the i8 eDrive plug-in hybrid combines the modified electric drive system from the BMW i3 producing 131-horsepower at the front wheels, and a three-cylinder twin power turbo motor producing 231-hp at the rear wheels. Working in tandem, the i8 delivers acceleration of 0-to-60 mph in 4.2 seconds. It can operate solely on electric power up to 22 miles to a maximum eDrive speed of 75 mph. Visually the exterior includes sweeping lines, short front/rear overhangs, and flat silhouette lends the vehicle a striking appearance. Note the large, transparent greenhouse over the 2+2 cabin, and how the doors swing upwards like wings. Thanks to the dual drive systems, all four wheels of the BMW i8 Concept can be driven at the same time, similar to an all-wheel-drive vehicle. This solution combines the advantages of front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive to ensure the optimal dynamic drive configuration as required. When in Sport mode, the i8 receives ultra-intense boost function provide by the electric motor. The 2016 BMW i8 features laser lights available as an option for the first time in the US, enhancing its athletic design and sleek, low-slung exterior. The BMW i8 is also the world's first volume-produced vehicle to be equipped with chemically hardened thin glass, similar to that used in smartphone manufacturing, which has impressive strength. Buyers have a wide range of connected drive features, including park distance control, cruise control system with braking function, rain sensor and intelligent emergency call function, driver assistance package with high beam assistant, a rear view camera, surround view, speed limit info collision warning with pedestrian recognition and braking function.
