2015 RAM HEAVY DUTY: The Ram truck exhibit at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show includes the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty truck models. For 2015, the Ram 3500 will offer increased torque ratings of 865 lb.-ft. and an increased payload of 7,390 pounds, while maintaining a class leading maximum tow rating of 30,000 pounds. The award-winning Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickup trucks are offered with a standard 5.7 liter Hemi V-8 that delivers 383-horsepower. An available 6.4L Hemi V-8 delivers best-in-class 410-hp and features VVT with Fuel Saver cylinder deactivation. Both Hemi’s come linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. Ram Truck and Cummins have developed an enhanced 6.7L High Output Turbo Diesel inline six-cylinder engine available in three versions. The first version is paired with Ram’s segment exclusive six-speed manual gearbox and delivers 350-hp, while the second option matches the Cummins to the six-speed automatic transmission and cranks out 370-hp. Finally, the 6.7L Cummins High-Output Turbo Diesel I-6 for Ram 3500 is paired with the Aisin six-speed automatic transmission. That engines develops 385-hp and best-in-class torque of 850 lb.-ft. Two BorgWarner part-time transfer cases are available on the 2014 Ram Heavy Duty, with either an electric shifting part-time transfer case, or a manual shifting transfer case, both with 2WD, 4WD High, 4WD Low and Neutral. The Ram Truck is offered in eight distinct trim levels - ST, SLT, Outdoorsman, Lone Star, Big Horn, Power Wagon, Laramie and Laramie Longhorn. There are three cab styles (regular cab, crew cab and Mega Cab), two cargo-box sizes (6 feet 4 inches and 8 feet), rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, as well as single-and dual-rear-wheel configurations. Maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) has increases to 9,600 pounds from 9,000 pounds on the Ram 2500, and the Ram 3500 features 22,750-lb. maximum trailer weight and up to 30,000 lb. GVWR. For the ultimate off-road capability, the Ram Power Wagon package features additional ground clearance, electric-locking front and rear differentials, 33-inch BF Goodrich off-road tires, a 4.56 axle ratio for hill climbing and a custom-built Warn 12,000-lb. winch. A total of 12 different colors fill the exterior palette, including two new shades: Blue Streak and Granite Crystal; available in a monotone and/or two-tone depending on the model.
