2015 MERCEDES-BENZ SL: Lighter and more rigid, with a sophisticated all-aluminum bodyshell, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL takes the meaning of the famous letters "SL" - super lightweight - quite literally. Weight reduction across the board is one of the most outstanding design characteristics of the new SL, and continues a tradition that began 60 years ago. Trim levels include a new SL400 SL550, SL63 and SL65 AMG variants, all two-passenger, and rear-wheel drive convertibles. The SL400 is equipped with a 329-horsepower 3.0-liter V6 biturbo, and the SL550 features a 4.6-liter V-8 that creates a healthy 492-hp. For even more thrills, the SL63 AMG packs a 6.2L V-8 that cranks-out 518hp, and the ultimate SL65 AMG delivering a massive 621-hp and 738lb-ft of torque. Standard and only transmission for each engine is a fuel-saving seven-speed automatic gearbox. Most of the body panels are aluminum, while high-strength steel is used in the roof pillars. Overall, the new SL body is about 20 percent stiffer than the car it replaces. All 2015 SL models come standard with Active Body Control, and available panoramic glass panel for the folding hardtop. Inside the new SL, a standard harman/kardon Logic 7 digital surround-sound system features award-winning FrontBass, in which the bass speakers are mounted in the front firewall so the two front frame members also serve as large bass boxes.
