2015 MERCEDES-BENZ GL-CLASS: The distinctive Mercedes-Benz GL-Class sport utility is on exhibit during the 107th annual Chicago Auto Show, Feb. 14-22, 2015. Star/stop technology is now standard on several models, and among the GL options are an ACTIVE CURVE SYSTEM, On/Off-Road Package, Active Parking Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, a 360-degree Surround View camera, Panorama Roof and power EASY-ENTRY for third-row passengers. The GL lineup includes the GL350 BlueTec 4Matic, GL450 4MATIC, GL550 4MATIC and the GL63 AMG. A quartet of powertrains is offered, starting with the 240- and 363-horsepower editions of the 3.0-liter V-6 turbo. The 4.7L V-8 biturbo produces a healthy 429-hp, and the top performer is the GL 63 that packs a 550-hp 5.5-liter biturbo V-8. With an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission, this SUV sprints from 0-to-60-mph in 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 174-mph. When properly fitted, the GL63 can tow up to 7,500 pounds. A special transfer case for the 4Matic full-time four-wheel-drive system distributes engine power 40:60 to the front and rear wheels. Standard equipment on all models includes a driver assistance package, panorama roof, designer interior and surround view camera. This crossover can transport seven adults in comfort, or when the middle row and rear seat back are folded flat, creates an enormous 93.8 cubic feet of cargo space. The GL-Class line of full-size sport utilities is assembled at the plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
