2015 FORD EXPLORER: The 2015 Explorer is Ford’s midsize, three-row SUV with first-class quality and comfort. There are four series for 2015, starting with the Base, then the XLT, Limited and Sport series. A list of new standard and options packages delivers sport-inspired design and performance to the 2015 Explorer, which is on display at the 107th annual Chicago Auto Show, Feb. 14-22, 2015. The Explorer became the first Ford model in North America to offer the 2.0 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, equipped with direct-injected, turbocharged and intercooled, enabling it to deliver an impressive 240 horsepower/270 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels. There is also a choice of the 3.5L Ti-VCT V-6 dispensing 290-hp and the 3.5-L EcoBoost V-6. All the engines come equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, and the V-6 models are also available with SelectShift and intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) system that adds terrain management. Ford bills its Explorer as the first to install inflatable outboard rear seat belts, and now further bolsters its safety parcel with knee airbags for the front passenger. In addition, an adaptable interior package has clever storage solutions and three rows of flexible seating for six-or seven-passengers. Impressive cargo volume numbers for all the family gear include 21.0 cu. ft. in back of the third row seating, a decent 43.8 cu. ft. behind middle row, and a spacious 80.7 cu. ft. behind first row when third and middle seat are down. A trio of available new colors for 2015 is Bronze Fire metallic tinted clearcoat, Caribou and Magnetic. Due to popular request, the 18-inch painted aluminum wheels are now standard on entry-level model. Check out the Explorer XLT with 20-inch machined aluminum wheels with painted pockets, black body-side cladding and roof rack rails.
