2014 NISSAN PATHFINDER HYBRID: With its big debut last year, as a 2013 model, the fourth-generation Nissan Pathfinder SUV continues to enhance the brand into 2014 with the release of the first-ever Pathfinder Hybrid model. Visually the Pathfinder Hybrid is marked by exclusive, efficient LED taillights and Nissan PUREDRIVE Hybrid badges. In addition, special hybrid system information screens are added to the instrument panel's Advanced Drive-Assist Display. At the heart of the new Pathfinder Hybrid – which is offered in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations – is its supercharged 250 horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor paired to a compact Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery. The Li-ion battery fits under the third row seat so there is no compromise of passenger seating capacity, second row or third row legroom or cargo space. Innovating engineering employs Nissan’s dual clutch system that efficiently manages power from both the electric motor and the gas engine. One clutch is installed between the gasoline engine and the electric motor, the other within the next-gen Xtronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). The electric motor also functions as a generator, conveying energy from the CVT to the battery upon deceleration. There are three fully equipped trim levels – SV, SL and Platinum – in addition to four comparably equipped Pathfinder 3.5-liter V-6 models (Pathfinder V-6 is also offered in S grade). With optional equipment, the Hybrid-equipped Pathfinders provides a standard towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds. Cargo room ranges from 16.0 cu. ft. with second and third row seats upright to 79.8 when seats are folded. An available dual panorama moonroof creates an even more airy cabin environment.
