2014 Kia GT4 Stinger

KIA GT4 STINGER CONCEPT:  A radical new concept car is about to create a sensation at the 106th annual Chicago Auto Show, Feb. 8-17, 2014. It’s the “Ignition Yellow” Kia GT4 Stinger, a powerful rear-wheel drive prototype that is a true enthusiasts machine. Conceived by the “gearheads” in Kia’s Irvine, Calif., the experimental machine weights in at a trim 2,874 pounds and is equipped with Kia’s proven 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline direct-injected four-cylinder engine.  Belting out an impressive 315 horsepower – and with the potential for more than 400hp, all that energy is transferred to the rear wheels via a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox. Visually, the west coast designers created a body that has a shrink-wrapped appearance, as if the exterior panels were formed around the chassis instead of merely welded to it. The long hood gently rises to meet the cowl and closely embraces the front wheel arches, creating two protruding muscular fenders above the front tires. Flanking the grille on both sides are vertical LED headlamps, and the front-brake cooling vents intricately molded into the bumper provide a clean, smooth appearance. Continuing around the car, the transparent A-pillars provide a more than 270-degree view from the driver’s seat. Note how the roof appears to “float” from the C-pillars, and the satin black rocker panels include integrated functional cooling ducts to enhance air flow to the rear brakes. Around back, the body widens to cover the large 275-series 20-inch Pirelli rubber. The glass hatch opens to reveal a built-in storage compartment, and the LED taillights illuminate from inside the outer edge of a blacked-out panel just above the dual exhaust ports in the rear bumper. As an inspired sports car, the interior is purposeful, and void of distractions and excess. There is no carpet, only rubber floor mat, and without a stereo, Kia believes that the “audio system starts under the hood and the speakers are the exhaust pipes.” Bring your camera phone and get a shot in front of this high-powered dream machine!
