2014 CHEVROLET SILVERADO: Chevrolet's Silverado full-size pickup is nearly all new for 2014, with dramatic updates from hood to hitch. Fresh design elements both inside and out lead the changes, along with a trio of powerful, efficient EcoTec3 V-6 and V-8s that seamlessly switch to four-cylinder mode to improve efficiency. The new Silverado 1500 body styles include regular, extended and crew cab, available with rear-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. For the first time, Silverado 1500 crew cabs is offered with a longer 6'6" box, in addition to the previous 5'8" box. For increased strength and reduced mass, boxes are made from roll-formed steel, compared to the traditional stamped beds. Engine selection begins with a new 4.3-liter V-6, then moves to new 5.3L V-8 and tops-off with a new 6.2L V-8. All three engines feature a six-speed automatic transmission. Silverado models equipped with the 4.3L V-6 can tow up to 7,600 pounds, while the 5.3L V-8 and the Max Towing Package offer trailering ratings of up to 12,000 pounds. Changes to the exterior are evolutionary, with updates that create a more muscular, more functional and more aerodynamic body. Rear doors on crew cabs are larger, for easier entry and exit, and rear doors on extended cab models are now hinged at the front for easier access, especially in tight spots. Also, checkout the new inlaid doors that reduce wind noise for a quieter cab.
