2014 CHEVROLET CAMARO: A big attraction in the Chevrolet exhibit at the 106 Edition of the Chicago Auto Show will be the restyled 2014 Camaro line, including the return of the Z/28 (reviewed separately). This represents the most significant redesign since the introduction of the fifth-generation Camaro as a concept car in 2006. Compared to the previous model, the ’14 front fascia features a wider lower opening, and a narrower upper opening that also updates the appearance of the iconic “halo ring” HID headlamps. The functional hood vent on the Camaro SS helps reduce heat and aerodynamic lift. Moving to the rear, the sculptural decklid, horizontal lamps and diffuser complete the powerful statement. The ‘14 LS and LT come fitted with a more powerful and efficient version of the 3.6-liter direct-injected V-6 that delivers 323 horsepower. A 6.2L V-8, with up to 426 hp is standard in the SS coupe and convertible. Camaro engines can be mated to a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The ZL1 Coupe accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 184 mph. Like the ZL1, all Camaro SS models now feature variable-effort electric power steering and an available dual-mode exhaust system on manual transmission-equipped models. In addition to the new performance features the revised Camaro offers frameless inside rearview mirror, Mojave leather interior trim, remote vehicle start, color-touch radio, and new 18-inch and 20-inch wheel designs. Cockpit seats four and trunk has 11.0 cubic foot of cargo room.
