2013 FORD SHELBY GT500: Ford selected the 2012 Chicago Auto Show to unveil the 2013 Shelby GT500 convertible, which also served as the celebratory vehicle of the 20th anniversary of Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT). For 2013, the Shelby GT500 coupe and soft top models continue performance leadership with a new supercharger that pushes more air through the engine to provide an increase of 112 horsepower from the previous model year. Total output is an amazing 662 hp from the 5.8-liter supercharged V-8, which comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. And don't worry, for the second year running, the Shelby GT500 is exempt from the federal gas-guzzler tax. Fresh performance design elements include a new downforce-generating front grilles, aggressive splitter, new quad exhaust system and two new forged-aluminum wheels. The 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are coupled with Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperCar G:2 tires on all vehicle configurations. The 2+2 cockpit can be outfitted with race-inspired Recaro front bucket seats, leather-trim and embroidered "cobra" logo and stripes that are color-matched to the exterior stripes. Serious enthusiasts can add optional external engine oil cooler, rear differential cooler and transmission cooler for further durability. The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is built in Flat Rock, Mich, and continues the four SVT attributes: Performance, Substance, Exclusivity and Value.
