Press Advises to Press On

Posted by: Jackie Beaudry

Yesterday I attended the Chicago Economic Club Luncheon. The Vice President and Chairman of Chrysler spoke about the current economic climate and what we can expect from the future from the automobile industry. In a time of great uncertainty, it was interesting to hear the perspective of a top executive. Press confirmed the need for the government and the auto industry to partner and work together in creating a sustainable business model that works for this environment. His message entailed the need to fix the things that should have been fixed a long time ago. Press encouraged the audience that the American automobile industry will survive these hard times, but that this is the new normal. The number of units sold is down and this trend may continue in the future so much that we will refer to these days as “the good old days”.

Press was a vivacious speaker that kept the audience’s attention. His comedic aptitude was on point and was a compliment to the serious issues being addressed. He even quoted Yogi Bear and mocked himself for the predictions he made when he spoke two years ago.

During the question and answer session, it was revealed that Press competes in triathlons during his free time. An audience member was interested in his training routine. Press swims for two hours each morning and in the afternoon he either runs or bikes for an hour. What a renaissance man! I envy his ability to run a major corporate company and yet still have time to train for his passion. I think we could all use some tips in time management from Mr. Press. What do you think?
