FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO (Feb. 18, 2015) – Today through Feb. 20, the Safe Haven Foundation food drive returns to the Chicago Auto Show. Attendees who bring three or more cans of food to the Chicago Auto Show will receive a discount coupon for a half-price ticket –at just $6.

“Throughout the past 18 years, the Chicago Auto Show has collected more than 300,000 pounds of food for A Safe Haven Foundation,” said Chicago Auto Show General Manager Dave Sloan. “We believe that the food drive is an important element of the work we do each year in putting the Chicago Auto Show on in this great community.”

A Safe Haven Foundation has collected more than 10 tons of canned goods and non-perishables from the Chicago Auto Show guests. The food is utilized in A Safe Haven’s Culinary Arts and Food Service Job Training Program that serves more than 500,000 meals for A Safe Haven homeless residents throughout the year. The donations also are distributed directly from A Safe Haven’s Food Pantry that serves more than 22,000 individuals and families a year in Chicago communities experiencing poverty and hunger.

“We are privileged to be a part of one of Chicago’s and the auto industry’s most prestigious and most anticipated annual events, the Chicago Auto Show,” said A Safe Haven President and Co-Founder Neli Vazquez Rowland. “While food insecurity affects one in six Americans, disturbingly, that rate is doubled in the neighborhoods A Safe Haven serves; living in hunger is a devastating reality for many children and families in our community. As such, we are so grateful to the Chicago Auto Show for partnering with us and especially to the generous people of Chicago who understand the importance of our work and have consistently supported this impactful tradition for 18 years in a row. Together we are making a huge dent on hunger and homelessness long-term,” said Vazquez Rowland.
