Firestone Racing Welcomed By EPA As National Partner For Environmental Priorities At Chicago Auto Show
Monday, February 16, 2009
On behalf of the Firestone Racing Program, Al Speyer, Executive Director of Firestone Racing and Greer Tidwell, Director of Environmental Management will accept recognition as a partner in the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Partnership for Environmental Priorities (NPEP). The NPEP highlights environmental leadership through voluntary reduction of priority and hazardous chemicals such as lead. During 2008, Firestone Racing permanently replaced the use of all lead wheel weights with non-toxic composite wheel weights and became a charter member of the National Lead Free Wheel Weight Initiative. Although the number of race cars may be small compared to the thousands of vehicles serviced at Firestone Complete Auto Care™, Tires Plus™, ExpertTire™ or Wheel Works™ service centers, which also chose to voluntarily install non-toxic steel wheel weights, proving the switch can be done on the racetrack is an important highlight of the Lead-Free Wheel Weight Initiative.
