2013 NISSAN LEAF: Now in its third model year, the highly innovative, industry leading Nissan Leaf pure electric vehicle features an extensive list of important enhancements for 2013. In addition, a new lower priced entry-level Leaf S grade joins the previous SV and SL grades, while an array of feature enhancements are added to the Leaf SL grade, including leather-appointed seating and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels. Also, three new option packages are available – offering advanced systems such as around view monitor and seven-speaker Bose energy efficient audio. As a 100-percent electric powered, medium-size hatchback, the Nissan Leaf is based on a lithium-ion battery-powered chassis. The battery powers a high-response 80kW AC synchronous motor, rated at 107 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque, which drives the front wheels through a single speed reducer. When equipped with a quick charge port and using a DC fast charger, the Leaf can be charged up to 80 percent of its full capacity in 30 minutes. Charging at home through a 220V outlet take approximately eight hours, and the Leaf has a range of 100 miles on one full charge to satisfy real-world consumer requirements. The advanced lithium-ion battery pack carries an industry-competitive warranty of 8 years or 100,000 miles. Now in its second year of production, the Leaf’s latest features include a photovoltaic solar panel spoiler that supports charging of the accessories 12-volt battery, and an “Approaching Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians” system. The Leaf offers comfortable seating for five adults, and with the 60/40 split folding rear seat lowered, 24.0 cu. ft. of cargo room.
