2014 SUBARU FORESTER: A major attraction in the Subaru exhibit at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show is the total re-designed 2014 Subaru Forester. Entering its fourth generation, the new Forester wears a bolder exterior body, and while having virtually the same footprint as the outgoing model, it contains an expanded five-passenger interior room. When the 60/40 split rear seatbacks are lowered, the Forester now provides a maximum of 74.7 cubic feet cargo room. The '14 Forester maintains a comfortably easy and low step-in, enhanced this year by wider-opening rear doors and by side sills that are 2 inches lower than before. Available in base, Premium, Limited and top-tier Touring versions, the Forester is offered with a 170 horsepower 2.5-liter naturally aspirated Boxer engine or new 250-horsepower 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged Boxer. Depending on powerplant and trim level, the engines are matched to either a new six-speed manual gearbox or a high-torque continuously variable transmission (CVT) that features six-speed and eight-speed manual shift modes with steering wheel paddle switches. As with all previous Forester models, the 2014 version comes standard with Subaru symmetrical all-wheel drive system, recognized for dependability, performance and versatility. All but the base 2.5i model come with a standard rear vision camera and color multi-function display. New available features include a power rear liftgate with automatic close, keyless access and start and the EyeSight driver assist set-up that uses a stereo camera developed by Subaru, rather than radar and integrates adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking and vehicle lane departure warning systems.
