2013 SUBARU OUTBACK: Subaru of America has revised the body design of the 2013 Outback models; installed a new, more efficient powertrain and debuts the innovative EyeSight driver-assist system. Exterior updates include a restyled front end, with new headlights, grille, front bumper and fog lights. Plus, the '13 Outback continues with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, which is higher than many crossovers and some dedicated SUVs. Chassis enhancements has improve both ride quality and agility in the latest Outback. Available in the 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited 3.6R and 3.6R Limited models, each a five-passenger crossover utility wagon with standard symmetrical all-wheel drive. The 2.5i four-cylinder horizontally opposed (Boxer) engine develops 173 horsepower and is matched to a standard six-speed manual or optional continuously variable transmission with six-speed manual mode and steering wheel paddle shifters. The CVT is standard on the 2.5i Limited. For increased performance, the 3.6R horizontally opposed (Boxer) six-cylinder engine offers 256 hp and comes linked to a five-speed automatic with paddle shifters. New, more comfortable seat fabric and a new light matte wood grain trim provide a sophisticated appearance to the Outback cabin, and with the standard 60/40 split rear seatbacks folded, provides a maximum of 71.3 cu. ft. cargo room. The rear cargo area also is deeper and wider than in many SUVs. The 2013 Outback debut Subaru's new EyeSight driver-assist system, which integrates adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking and vehicle lane departure warning. EyeSight uses a stereo camera design developed by Subaru to provide a detection angle wider than that of radar-based systems. All Subaru products are manufactured in Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc. zero-landfill production plants.
