KIA CROSS GT CONCEPT: KIA CROSS GT: A big surprise at the Kia exhibit during the 2013 Chicago Auto Show was the debut of the stunning new Kia Cross GT concept CUV. The thinking behind the creation of the Cross GT was to combine the elegance of a GT coupe and a luxury CUV, and with an overall length of 192.8 inches, the Cross GT cuts a very imposing figure. That’s 8.4 inches greater than the Kia Sorento. The Cross GT’s sophisticated image is enhanced by the lowered roofline, dual rear-hinged “suicide” doors, and a cargo compartment accessed through a “clam shell” glass hatch and a tailgate. Anchored to the central tunnel, the four Almond-Terra-colored leather-covered bucket seats appear to float within the cabin, along with re-harvested American walnut and 100% exo-friendly renewable wool felt. Utilizing a state-of-the-art 3.8 liter V-6 hybrid, eight-speed automatic and torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive, the Cross-GT’s powertrain matches the sophistication of the exterior and interior designs. Backing the V-6 is an evolution of Kia’s parallel hybrid system, a pancake-shaped electric motor sandwiched between the V-6 and transmission. Combined, the V-6 and electric motor produce 500 lb.-ft. of torque and 400 horsepower, with an all-electric range of 20-miles. This concept was penned at Kia Design Center America in Irvine, California, and though purely conceptual, the Cross GT reveals that Kia is serious about a larger premium CUV in the near future
