2014 ACURA MDX PROTOTYPE: Acura has a distinctive luxury SUV to reveal at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show - the Acura MDX Prototype. For the first time in the Windy City, the MDX Prototype presents an indicator to the anticipated third generation MDX. First impression of the concept is the uncluttered aerodynamic exterior design, which Acura terms "Aero Sculpture." The result presents a compact and premium appearance to the MDX Prototype with low, wide and sleek proportions Although the vehicle has an arcing roofline (1.5-inches lower than the previous model), there's a more spacious and versatile cabin compared to the outgoing MDX. Big reason is the longer wheelbase that increases second-row legroom, and improves third-row seat access. Powering the MDX Prototype and upcoming 2014 MDX production model is an all-new, direct-injected 3.5 liter i-VTEC SOHC V-6 engine that delivers more spirited performance while realizing a significant increase in fuel efficiency. Elegant seven-passenger cabin benefits from the improved interior quietness. An array of advanced technologies include a forward collision warning and lane departure warning systems, as well as multi-angle rearview camera, AcuraLink cloud-based connected car system featuring Pandora connectivity and SiriusXM radio. Expect the 2014 Acura MDX to roll into dealers by mid-2013 in both all-wheel-drive and front-wheel-drive layouts. Yes, in response to strong demand from consumers in warm weather markets, Acura will for the first time, offer a front-wheel drive version of MDX in addition to the all-wheel drive (SH-AWD). With the introduction of the all-new 2014 Acura MDX production will move from Alliston, Ontario, to the company's vehicle and V-6 engine manufacturing facility in Lincoln, Alabama.
