2012 BMW 3 SERIES: A major attraction at the BMW exhibit during the 2012 Chicago Auto Show is the all-new BMW 3 Series Sedan, which simultaneously arrives at US BMW centers in February as a 2012 model. This is the sixth generation 3 Series, and is now available in a trio of trim and equipment variants – the Sport Line, Luxury Line and Modern Line. Each presents its own individual take on the character of the sports sedan, but all models wear a restyled BMW kidney grille, new elongated headlights and an athletic overall profile. A choice of two muscular, refined and efficient engines – which both feature new BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. This includes the already successful six-cylinder engine powering the 335i customers, and the new four-cylinder variant in the BMW 328i. Standard on both powerplants is a six-speed manual gearbox, with an innovative eight-speed automatic gearbox available on either the 328i or the 335i and includes the new Auto Start-Stop function. Although the new BMW 3 Series has grown moderately in all dimensions compared to its predecessor, it retains a perfect balance of performance and elegance. Passengers in the rear of the five-seat cabin will enjoy significantly more space than in the outgoing model, and the tailored trunk can carry up to 17 cu. ft. of luggage.
