1955 Thunderbird wowed crowds at ‘54 Chicago Auto Show

When Ford reintroduced the two-seat Thunderbird concept car in 1999, which began production as a 2002 model, I experienced déjà vu.

Auto show ads sold the ’58 Plymouth: Plymouth promoted its product with clever cartoons at Chicago Auto Show

During the 1958 Chicago Auto Show, the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corp. ran a series of spot ads that were peppered through out the annual show section of the city’s Sunday newspapers.

Watching a Charlie Brown TV special with my family reminded me of a connection I had forgotten. Four decades ago, the “Peanuts” gang teamed up with Ford to promote the new Ford Falcon compact car.
It began in the fall of 1959, when Charlie Brown and friends appeared with the 1960 Falcon. They were shown together in newspaper and magazine advertisements . . . click for more.

A REAL CROWD PLEASER: Silver Arrow III wowed visitors to 1972 Chicago Auto Show

Ford Floors It At '72 Show

A professional photographer snapped two scenes during the 64th annual Chicago Auto Show. They captured a special display in the Ford exhibit on the main floor of McCormick Place exposition center, located along the shores of Lake Michigan. The show ran from Feb. 26 thru March 5, 1972.

While attending last year’s Chicago Auto Show, I noticed several sports cars and sport utility vehicles incorporated surfer themes in video clips and backdrops to the vehicles.
