Under the auspices of Motor Age magazine, the first official Chicago Auto Show took place in 1901. Held from March 23-30, vehicles were on display in the Coliseum, which offered a vast amphitheater, 300 feet long by 170 feet wide. Galleries of ample seating capacity ran around the four sides of the building. The price of space for exhibitors, ran from $1.00 to $1.50 per square foot.
