Q: I am curious which date of this year's Car show are most student groups attending? As this date tends to be overly crowded and i would like to avoid it if possible. Thank you for your help.
A:

Student groups are not restricted to any day, so you can expect to see school outings on all weekdays. But on a show floor spanning more than 1.2 million square feet, there will be elbow room for everyone!

Q: When is the ribbon-cutting ceremony to open the show?
A:

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Feb. 10 at the Grand Concourse entrance to the auto show.

Show officials will say a few words about the 2012 edition, then it's open to the public.

Q: Hello, I would like to know if there is a dress code for the public car show dates. Also, is there information that can be mailed out for this event? Thanks for your help! Kristi Barrows
A:

The Chicago Auto Show wants all its patrons to dress comfortably. There is no dress code, per se; please just make sure all the important body parts are covered, and don't otherwise appear like you're on "Cops."

All information that could be mailed already is posted on this Web site.

Q: In past years, which day of the auto show has the lowest attendance?
A:

On a show floor that is 1.2 million square feet, there is plenty of elbow room for everyone! But to answer your question, attendance tends to be lightest on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Q: HOW MUCH IS PARKING IN THE "SOUTH STANDARD"OUTDOOR PARKING LOT IN 2012? THANK YOU!
A:

Standard Parking, which operates all the lots surrounding McCormick Place, indicated that the 2012 rate is $19 in Lots A and C until 6 p.m., then is reduced to $10 until the auto show closes. Parking in Lot B costs $14 until 6 p.m., when it also drops to $10. The auto show management does not control the lots and receives none of the parking receipts.

Q: Is opening day usually a crowded one? I would like to bring my 2 children (age 10 & 14) and would like to pick a day that is not usually as crowded. Any suggestions? Thank you, I appreciate your help. Paul
A:

Lots of people come all the days of the show, but the two mildest days for crowds usually are Tuesday and Wednesday during the run. Opening Day is on a Friday, so attendance ought to be a little lighter than on a weekend, when crowds typically are heavier.

Q: Is there any place I can check my luggage while I visit the show on my way to the airport?
A:

Yes. The various coat checks also accept luggage to hold while you visit the show. At last word, items cost $3 each to check.

Q: Any discount on admission for cans of food for charity as in other years?ThanksBrad
A:

Discounted admission is granted during the show's annual canned food drive if you bring three canned foods to the show on WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15, THURSDAY, FEB. 16 or FRIDAY, FEB. 17.

If you bring food on another day, you'll get a warm feeling but no discount to enter.

Q: Who are the participating banks? (Discount tickets)
A:

Banks that secure discount vouchers distribute them to their customers in monthly account statements; they do not make them available for casual encounters. A running list of those banks is not readily available.

Q: Are there lockers or a coat check that you can put your coats, rather then have to carry them around?
A:

Several coat checks will operate for you to leave your coat and any luggage. At last check, the rates were $3 per garment.

Q: Will there be any displays of classic/antique cars?
A:

Yes! vintage vehicles will be displayed by the Classic Car Club of America and by the Model T Car Club, both located in the South hall. Other exhibitors might also show a few classics.

Q: Are there designated smoking areas at the show?
A:

Disregarding the countless ashtrays in the building, a Chicago ordinance that took effect in 2006 bans smoking in the entirety of McCormick Place and all other public buildings in the city. Smokers can look for designated areas at least 15 feet away from the building. Ask red-coated ushers for directions.

Q: Are there any incentives on the cadillac escalade being offered.
A:

Vehicle sales are not conducted on the show floor. You'll have to visit any Chicagoland Cadillac dealer to discuss incentives and other options, and to close a deal.

Q: I HAVE A COUPON WITH $4.00 DOLLARS OFF ADMISSION CAN I STILL BRING IN FOOD AND GET MORE OFF. FROM CANDY SWEET
A:

When you bring three canned foods to the show on Wednesday, Feb. 15, Thursday, Feb. 16, or Friday, Feb. 17, you are granted $4 off the regular admission, which for adults is $11.

That is as low as it gets. You cannot combine discounts, or the auto show would end up having to pay you to attend.

Q: Are there any discount tickets available anywhere that are good on the weekends?BTW, your answers to these questions are great. You have a good sense of humor.
A:

No discounts exist for admission on weekends. Any discounts are offered for weekdays.

Q: Do all your restroom have a baby changing station (even the men's restrooms)? I assume strollers are o.k. Right?
A: This is a family show, so strollers are, indeed, welcome. Restrooms in McCormick Place mostly have baby-changing stations.

Q: May I bring a stroller or is it possible to rent one?
A: Wheelchairs and motorized scooters can be rented at McCormick Place, but strollers are not available to rent. Best to bring one.

Q: This is the first show that we have ever attended. Can you sit inside the vehicles? Or do you just walk around and look at them?
A: Most every production vehicle on the floor is unlocked for attendees to comb through. One-of-a-kind concepts are for viewing only, and a few of the displays for high-end cars give unfettered access to select patrons only.

Q: Is there a DMV location at the show for purchasing replacement driver's licenses?
A:

Yes, the Illinois Secretary of State's office does have a booth at which attendees can renew or replace their driver's licenses. Look for the booth in the South hall at the show.

Q: Can my wife wear a back pack instead of having to carry her purser around all day?
A: Certainly! All bags are subject to search at the entrances, though.

Q: Can we bring a small 2 wheel shopping cart to carry our coats, cameras, wifes purse, etc?
A:

A child stroller is one thing; a shopping cart might be difficult to navigate around the show depending on crowd size. Expect ushers probably to disallow your cart.

Q: will there be the same car attendance at the last day of the show as in the first weekend? Are there any cars you take away after the first weekend?
A: Every vehicle that enters the building during move-in remains in the show until its conclusion, so the last visitor sees the same show as the first visitor.

Q: Are locked lockers available to lock up winter coats so they do not have to be carried?
A:

Lockers, no; coat check, yes. But you can leave suitcases and packages at the coat checks.

Q: Is there an area set aside for nursing mothers
A:

No, but Illinois law permits mothers to nurse their babies in any public place. If it's quiet you want, that no doubt can be found somewhere outside the auto show floor.

Q: What is the total attendance for the Chicago Auto show forecasted to be in 2012, and what was it in 11? Thanks.
A:

The auto show management does not announce attendance figures.

Q: are the people who are here on behalf of the different companies talking about the car features from around this area or from somewhere else specifically for this show?
A:

Many of the exhibitors employ product specialists who are very knowledgeable about the vehicles in their displays and who tour various auto shows to share their expertise. Most exhibits also are staffed with salespeople from area dealerships, and they can direct you to a dealer convenient to you to pursue a purchase.

Q: I lost my car keys at the show on Tuesday night. Is there a lost and found dept ? How do I contact someone that might be able to help me ?
A:

Sorry for your trouble. You can check with McCormick Place security at (312) 791-6060.

Q: Are "two-way radios" allowed in the Chicago Auto Show?
A:

Sure, but if the annoyance level is too great, be prepared for confrontation from those around you.

Q: Can I bring a double stroller for my kids? Where would be the best place to park to gain access to the car show with a stroller?
A: Strollers are permitted in the show but, based on when you attend, increased crowds might make it challenging for you to traverse the floor. Two lots near the show floor require a walk from your car to the show; all others involve a free shuttle bus. If you don't want to ride the shuttle, then aim for Lot A or Lot C. (See www.mccormickplace.com/ Click on "Attending an Event," then "Parking and Directions.")

Q: I saw a couple of questions in this section about leaving the coats in a coat check. Is it required that I check my coat or would I be able to carry it if I wanted to?My other question is about the lighting in McCormick Place. I don't have a digital camera so I'm wondering if it is bright enough to take pictures of the vehicles with just a film camera.
A:

Coat check exists for people who wish to leave their coats. If you wish to wear your coat or carry it, you are free to do so.

To your other question, the lighting in each of the displays should be more than sufficient for cameras without flash bulbs.

Q: Is this the 104th year of the show?
A:

Yes, we're very proud to say that 2012 marks the 104th edition of the show, making the Chicago Auto Show the first in the world to reach that marker. The first annual Chicago Auto Show was in 1901, 111 years ago. But the automotive industry made no new automobiles for seven years during and immediately after World War II, so there were no auto shows then. That explains the discrepancy.

Q: there is any restriction for video cameras and accesories (e.x. tripod, light...)? do i have to pay extra if come with my camcorder? there is any place were cameras are not permited ( on the show flor)?
A:

Simple cameras and camcorders are permitted, welcomed, encouraged. You can't get so elaborate that your equipment infringes on others, so leave the crain at home.

Q: MAY I PURCHASE AN AUTOMOBILE AT THE SHOW?
A: No, the Chicago Auto Show is an exhibition only, so you can't close a deal at McCormick Place. If you're ready to pull the trigger, representatives of the display can direct you to a dealer convenient to your home or office to purchase a vehicle.

Q: Will the representatives aggressively be trying to sell me their showcased car or is it OK to look just out of curiosity? I'd rather not be badgered into buying every car I look at. Thank you.
A:

That is the beauty of the Chicago Auto Show! Feel completely comfortable to look, tire-kick, etc. No selling is permitted on the show floor; representatives of the displays are there to answer all of your questions and, if you are interested, to direct you to a dealership convenient to you to initiate any purchasing discussions. Enjoy the show!

Q: In what year did the Chicago Automobile Trade Association start producing the Auto Show?
A: The Chicago Auto Show premiered in 1901. The Chicago Automobile Trade Association has owned and produced the show since 1935.

Q: What is the temp in the building?
A:

February in Chicago challenges any building to maintain uniform heating. It can be cooler by exit doors that are opened repeatedly, and warmer on the show floor, with accumulated body heat. Follow your mother's advice and layer your clothing.

Q: are there lockers to storing your jackets
A:

No lockers, but McCormick Place operates several coat checks to store coats and other items like suitcases. Cost is $3 per item.

Q: I attended last year and my fanny pack was searched (with no problem.) The searcher, however was unable to tell me what items are prohibited. Can you please specify what specific items are searched for and prohibited, so that I don't inadvertently carry something that will delay or prevent my entry?
A: Consider McCormick Place to be an airport without the airplanes. Anything that would be confiscated there would be confiscated here.

Q: Are children strollers allowed into the exhibit?
A: Of course, but try not to attend with a double-wide stroller, which will likely knock into other people and make it difficult for you to navigate the show.

Q: Are there dedicated locations for breastfeeding? If so, where are these located?
A:

No dedicated locations. An Illinois law enacted in 2006 pretty much allows breastfeeding in any location of a public building. Use discretion as warranted.

Q: Are you able to re-enter the show the same day you originally paid without having to pay a second time?
A:

Yes, you can re-enter multiple times on the same day, provided you get your hand stamped when first exiting the show.

Q: Will the manafactures give out rebates on vehices?
A:

Yes, many of the manufacturers offer auto show special pricing, usually through the end of February. Check with your local dealers for details.

Q: If I purchase on-line, is my credit card information secure?
A:

Yes! All credit card information is protected through VeriSign, an e-commerce leader for processing payments securely. VeriSign uses SSL encryption to transmit data safely.

Q: How do I print my tickets?
A:

You must have access to a printer to generate tickets purchased on this Web site. Also you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader software to view the tickets.  That software is available for free download on the purchase tickets page.  Once you have that software, the process is fairly straightforward, but if you have problems, call the assistance numbers posted along the way.

Q: Will I need to bring these tickets to the show?
A:

Yes, you must have the tickets you purchase to enter the show. All tickets feature a distinct bar code number.

Even though multiple copies of your online ticket can be printed at home, only one will gain admission to the event--the first one presented to the ushers.

Q: What if I forget my tickets?
A:

Please don't forget your tickets!

Q: What entrance will accept these tickets?
A:

Tickets purchased online can be presented for admission at any of the Chicago Auto Show entrances. One entrance is at the Grand Concourse, the large hallway that separates the McCormick Place North and South halls; two other entrances are in the West Lobby of McCormick Place South.

Ushers can direct you to all entrances.

Q: How do I purchase group packages?
A:

To order group packages, review the row of categories across the top of the main page, and go to the leftmost category, About the Show. From the ensuring drop-down menu, see School and Group Ticket Sales.

From there, you will find information and can download a form for tickets. Follow instructions to complete and submit the form.

Q: Are group tickets good for any day admission?
A:

Group-rate tickets are valid only on weekdays, not weekends.

Q: Can I get tickets from my local auto dealer?
A:

The area's new-car dealers have varying amounts of tickets to share. But demand is heavy, so don't be too disappointed if supplies run out!

Q: My husband and I are looking for a new family car. I understand from your website that children under the age of 6 are free with a paying adult. My husband and I have 4 1/2 year old quadruplets. If we come to the show how would you charge us?
A:

In your example, the six of you all can enter for $22, the cost of two adult tickets ($11 each). Enjoy the search for your new family car!

A:

Persons aged 62 and older are eligible for admission as Seniors. Such tickets are regularly $7 each.

Q: how to fill out the form for free tickets from a car dealer?
A:

There are no forms to complete for free tickets from dealers. If you want a ticket, visit the dealership. Most of them have varied amounts, though, so don't be too upset if the supplies of the dealer you visit are exhausted.

Q: Do single tickets allow entry for multiple days? I.E., can I use the same ticket for entry on two different days? thanks andy
A: No, admission tickets are valid for one day's entry only. Another ticket would have to be used to enter on a subsequent day.

Q: I purchased two show tickets online. Can I go to the auto show on any particular day?
A:

Yes, tickets that are purchased online are valid for admission on any one of the 10 days of the show, Feb. 10-19.

Q: Can I get a refund?
A: Sorry, no. All ticket sales are final.

Q: do you have a list of specific car dealerships, banks, and other places that have discounted tickets?
A:

Every new-car dealer in the Chicago marketplace was equipped in early January with a supply of tickets that provide half-price admission on any weekday of the show. Demand at each location varies; so too, then, does remaining supply. About three dozen banks also order the weekday discount tickets, which they award to their customers in monthly statements. Banks do not offer the discount vouchers to non-customers.

Q: If I enter with a ticket, leave the show and want to come back the same day is that possible? What do I need to do to ensure that I can return the same day?
A:

All tickets are valid for one admission. If you wish to leave and return later the same day, ask ushers as you depart the first time to apply a dated stamp to your hand. That will permit re-entry later that day. Re-entry on a subsequent day is not permitted using the original stamp; another ticket must be purchased for that.

Q: Will I be able to buy tickets on the day of the event at the door?
A: Numerous box offices at each of the entrances to the show floor are prepared to sell same-day tickets to the event. For a ticket that is valid any of the show's 10 days, purchase it online at this Web site.

Q: IF I PURCHASE TICKETS ONLINE, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR ME TO RECEIVE THEM?
A:

When you buy tickets online, you have the power to print them right immediately, using your computer. Instructions throughout the process will guide you. So the answer is, as soon as you order them!

Q: Do tickets ever sell out?
A:

No, on a show floor measuring 1.2 million square feet, there is plenty of elbow room for everyone. Tickets do not sell out, but crowds traditionally are greatest on weekends. Also, the box offices where tickets are sold close one hour before the show closes each evening.

Q: Where would I be able to buy discount tickets?
A:

You can't buy discount tickets, per se. What you can obtain are vouchers that earn discounted admission when redeemed at the box offices at each of the entrances to the auto show. The vouchers are offered free; they aren't sold, and they are available at most Chicagoland new-vehicle dealers and BP gas stations, and from several banks that offer them to customers in monthly statements.

Q: I work for a car dealership in Southeastern Wisconsin. Will there be a free or discounted ticket promotion for dealership employees, like with the Milwaukee car show?
A: The Chicago Auto Show is owned and produced by the dealers in and around Chicago, so don't expect to find discounted or free tickets to the show at Wisconsin dealerships.

Q: I purchased tickets online for my boyfriend and me and then printed them out, but they had my name on them because I purchased them with my credit card. Will they still let him in even though they both have my name on them?
A: Ushers at the show are concerned with whether the ticket you generated at home is valid--it has not already been scanned by a previous visitor. (You are able to print multiple copies of your ticket, but only the first one scanned by ushers is valid.) Ushers are not concerned with the name on the ticket; that is for your benefit.

Q: Am i able to buy tickets at the doors a day i choose to arrive?
A:

Tickets sold at the box offices are valid that day only. Tickets purchased on this Web site can be used any of the 10 days of the show. You must have access to a printer when you buy tickets on the Web, because you have to bring those tickets to the show to enter.

Q: Is there a will call for tickets?
A: No, a will call does not exist. Please make any such arrangements privately.

Q: To save money on tickets all we have to do is show up at the ticket box with three canned goods each?
A:

Yes, three canned goods per person, but only if you do it on Wednesday, Feb. 15, Thursday, Feb. 16 or Friday, Feb. 17. The savings is $4 off a regular $11 adult admission. On another day, you'll get the unending thanks of A Safe Haven Foundation, which operates the annual food drive, but no discounted admission.

Q: How can I order my tickets online and use the $4 discount vouchers I received from BP?
A:

You can't. The discount vouchers from a BP gas station must be taken to the box offices at McCormick Place, where attendants then will sell you an admission ticket for $7.

Q: What participating auto dealerships in the Aurora/Naperville area are participating in discounted tickets?
A:

All of them were furnished with several hundred discount vouchers in early January, and some of them order additional quantities. Remaining supplies vary based on demand.

Q: Can you pay for the discount tickets with a credit card, while they are presented?
A: Most of the show's box offices conduct cash transactions. Special box offices at each of the show entrances accept credit card transactions, and they are clearly marked as such.

Q: What are the names and addresses of any dealerships with tickets to the auto show? I heard some of them have discounted tickets available. Is this true?
A:

Every new-car dealer in the Chicago market in early January is sent a small amount of vouchers good for discounted weekday admission. Some of the dealers elect to secure additional quantities, so supplies vary among all dealers. The only suggestion is to visit your area dealers and inquire.

To identify dealers and their locations, click on
www.drivechicago.com/

Q: Are there any discounts available for active duty military personnel? Thank you.
A:

Yes, personnel who currently serve in the Active duty, National Guard or Reserves and hold valid military ID are admitted free to the show. Non-active personnel and any family and friends who may accompany you must purchase a ticket.

Tickets cost $11 for adults ages 13-61; $7 for seniors 62 and older and for children ages 7-12; and children 6 and younger are admitted free with a paying parent.

Q: Could you please tell if may buy ticket only online or in the same day on Auto Show ?
A:

The ticket you buy online is valid for one entry on any of the show's 10 days that you choose to attend. If you buy a ticket at the box offices at McCormick Place, you'll receive a ticket that is valid for admission that day only. Both tickets would cost the same; there is no online or in-person discount.

Q: How do the Employee Appreciation tickets work?I work at a dealership, Do the tickets work for the whole family or just for the employee? Children included?
A:

The special Employee Appreciation Day ticket, produced by the Chicago Automobile Trade Association, admits the holder only. The ticket in 2012 is valid Friday, Feb. 10 and Monday, Feb. 13 through Friday, Feb. 17--in other words, all weekdays of the show.

Everyone who wishes to see the show needs his own ticket.

Q: Is there any way to get a discount for admission on the weekends?
A:

Sorry, no discounts exist for weekend attendance.

Q: Do teachers receive a discount?
A:

If the teachers have their students in tow, and they register in advance for group ticketing, then yes, they would be eligible for reduced admission. If they're on their own and declare they are teachers, no discount can be extended.

Q: Can you purchase tickets at any ticketmaster outlet?
A:

Ticketmaster exacts a service charge for transactions and therefore is not involved in Chicago Auto Show ticketing. Buy advance tickets using this Web site, and the $11 price is the same you'd encounter at McCormick Place box offices. No service charge!

Q: I have already purchased my tickets to the show for this weekend, but at the time of purchase I didn't mark that I would be bringing a child. Now, I will be bringing my niece, so do I need to get a child ticket for her since I already have mine, or can she just come in with me since she is under the age limit? Thanks
A: Tickets for children 6 and younger do not exist. Just bring them with yourself and your own admission ticket, and they will be admitted free.

Q: Can I use an American Express gift card at the box office to buy tickets? -Bill
A:

Yes! The box offices are equipped to accept AmEx, Visa and MasterCard -- and cash.

Q: How do I purchase tickets?
A:

You've found your way to this Web site, so the hard part is over. You can buy tickets right here, both to the 10 public days, Feb. 10-19, and to First Look for Charity, the black-tie benefit, on Feb. 9.

On the home page, there is a bar across the top of the screen that includes categories for First Look for Charity and Tickets (for the show's public days).

Another option: Box offices at McCormick Place accept cash or credit card for ticket purchases at the show..

Q: What is the ticket price?
A:

Regular admission for adults aged 13 and older is $11. For seniors aged 62 and older and for children ages 7-12, regular admission is $7. Children 6 and younger are free when they accompany a paying parent.

There are several opportunities to gain discounted admission on weekdays, including obtaining weekday discount tickets from area new-car dealers, and participating in the show's annual Food Drive: Bring three canned foods to the show on Wednesday, Feb. 15, Thursday, Feb. 16 and Friday, Feb. 17, and enter for $4 off the regular adult admission price.

Parking
Q: I was wondering if there is a shuttle bus that departs fom museum campus because that is a last stop for some CTA buses?
A:

The auto show shuttles do not trove the museum campus. You'd have to get to the Soldier Field lot to catch a free ride.

Q: what is the cost of parking for the auto show?
A:

The three lots that surround McCormick Place are Lots A, B and C. During the day, it costs $19 to park in Lots A and C and $14 to park in Lot B. At 6 p.m. the rate drops to $10 in all three lots.

As a weekend alternative -- SATURDAY and SUNDAY ONLY -- show-goers can park offsite at Millennium Park Garage and the East Monroe Garage.

Millennium Park Garage -- The automobile entrance for the Millennium Garage is on South Columbus Drive between Monroe Street (from the south, heading north) and Randolph Street (from the north, heading south).

East Monroe Garage -- The automobile entrance for the Monroe Garage is on South Columbus Drive between Monroe Street (from the south, heading north) and Randolph Street (from the north, heading south).

Furthermore, free shuttles stop in 10-15 minute intervals at both the Upper Randolph / Lower Randolph pedestrian exits.

Q: Can I get parking at the show / McCormick Place it self or do I have to park and shultle to the show. Lester Brown
A:

It depends where you park, Lester. Lot A is immediately west of McCormick Place South, and Lot C, the underground lot at the Lakeside Center (former McCormick Place East), are too close to the building to warrant shuttles.

Shuttles are offered as a convenience for the more distant lots.

Q: Can you tell me if there is any valet parking at the show. Thank You
A:

Valet parking is offered by the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, which adjoins the convention center, but the number of stalls is extremely limited for those who are not guests of the hotel. Parking rates there are on an hourly basis.

For current rates and availability, call the hotel, (312) 567-1234.

Q: Are there any discounts/coupons for McCormick Place parking? Thanks!
A:

Yes! Lots A and C at McCormick Place cost $19 to use until 6 p.m. each day, when the parking rate decreases to $10. In Lot B, parking costs $14 until 6 p.m., when the cost there also drops to $10.

In addition, the auto show has arranged for WEEKEND-ONLY shuttles from the parking garages at Millennium Park for $14. On Saturdays and Sundays, park at the Millennium Park Garage and ride a free shuttle to the show! The auto show negotiated favorable parking rates there for its visitors.

Q: can you give me directions on how to get to the parking garage from North Michigan Ave? Thanks
A:

There are two parking garages adjoining McCormick Place, both of which can be reached from North Michigan Avenue by venturing southbound on Lake Shore Drive.

For both, exit at 31st Street. To access the Lakeside Center garage (Lot C), turn left at the top of the exit and essentially make a U-turn, briefly heading north on LSD and watching for signs to parking.

To access the lot off Martin Luther King Drive (Lot A), travel west on 31st Street to MLK, turn right (north) and watch for entrance signs near the I-55 overpass. Turn left into parking garage.

Q: We will be driving in Feb.14 in a motorhome. Is there any specific parking area we should park in?
A:

As management of the Chicago Auto Show, we rent the interior of McCormick Place. The parking facilities are operated by Standard Parking. Suggest you pose your question to them at (312) 274-2110.

Q: my wife just had knee surgery. what lot would you suggest we use? thanks, mike
A: For those who count steps, the shortest walk does not necessarily originate from the closest lot. Shuttles that operate from remote lots deliver show-goers right to the building, so that actually means less shoe leather than walking from nearer lots.

Q: Will there be shuttles on Friday from the grant park garages??
A:

No, the complimentary shuttles operate from Millennium Park Garage on WEEKENDS only.

Q: Are the Soldier Field parking lots open to Auto Show visitors? If so, what is the cost of parking there, and are there shuttle buses to and from McCormick Place?
A:

The Solider Field lots are charging $19 to park there, then the auto show offers free shuttles from there to McCormick Place.

Buses run between the Center Aisle at 18th Street in the stadium lot and Gate 27 at McCormick Place. Be sure to return to Gate 27 for the round trip!

Shuttles operate each day beginning at 10 a.m. The last departure from McCormick Place is 11 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 10-12); 10:30 p.m. Monday-Friday (Feb. 13-17); 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18; and 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19.

Q: How do I get to the parking garage from the West suburbs through I-55 ?
A:

The final exit before I-55 northbound ends at Lake Shore Drive is Martin Luther King Drive. Exit at MLK and turn left just prior to the bottom of the exit. Traffic police will direct you to the Lot A parking garage along King Drive.

There also is underground parking (Lot C) at Lakeside Center, the original McCormick Place, on the east side of Lake Shore Drive. At surface parking lots, the auto show provides free shuttle service to the building.

Q: Is the underground garage open early?
A:

Attendants at any of the Standard Parking lots surrounding McCormick Place open at 5 a.m. daily. The auto show opens at 10 a.m. each day.

Q: What is the parking rate for soldier field parking during the weekdays?
A:

Standard Parking, which operates the lots surrounding McCormick Place, has indicated parking for the 2012 Chicago Auto Show would cost $19. The lots are owned and fully operated by Standard Parking, not the auto show.

Q: I need to pick someone up from the show, will I be able to pull in front of the mccormick place to pick them up or is there a special place to do that??
A:

That's easier said than done. Traffic police want to keep cars moving, so idling on the street is a no-no, and the cab stand off Martin Luther King Drive is, as the name implies, for cabs only.

The auto show management rents the interior of McCormick Place for the show. We don't have much say in how things work on the outside.

Q: My husband has to work the auto show on Saturday, February 18th from 3pm to 10 pm. How long are the shuttles going to run? We are planning to park at Millenium Park and want to make sure that we can get back to our car.
A:

Don't loiter too long after the show closes. Shuttles run until 60 minutes after the show closes at 10 p.m.

Q: What should we know about the difference in parking and shuttle service on a weekday as opposed to a weekend?
A:

You should know that all the weekday parking options also exist on weekends, and that additional, weekend-only parking options exist at Millennium Park garages. Park there on Feb. 11, 12, 18 or 19, and ride free shuttles to/from Gate 3 at McCormick Place.

Q: If you miss a free shuttle, how long is the wait time for the next one, say from soldier field lots, Lakeshore Drive lots, during the week and for weekend downtown Millennium lots?
A:

The buses are impacted by traffic flow around McCormick Place, so they don't necessarily run like a Swiss watch. But waits should not exceed 15 to 20 minutes.

Q: what is the cost of the underground parking, and will that be available on the weekends? Are there a lot of spots underground? Also, if we park undergound, are we connected to the building, or would we have to go back outside? Thanks, Marianne
A:

The underground lot, Lot C, is open every day of the Chicago Auto Show, beginning at 5 a.m. Parking there for the 2012 Chicago Auto Show costs $19 until 6 p.m., when the rate drops to $10. [The lot is fully owned and operated by Standard Parking, not the auto show.]

You can walk from that lot, part of the original McCormick Place facility on the east side of Lake Shore Drive, using an enclosed walkway over LSD to reach the auto show.

Q: Is there a shuttle from U.S Cellular Field?
A:

No shuttle this year from U.S. Cellular Field. Free shuttles operate WEEKENDS ONLY from Milleniunm Park.

Q: What is the maximum height clearance of the Millinneum Park Garages?
A:

The maximum clearance at the North Garage, at Michigan Avenue and Washington Street, is 6 feet 8 inches. Calls to the park's South Garage were unsuccessful.

Q: Parking LOT A it's indoor or outdoor
A: Lot A is a six-story garage. The top level is exposed and the other levels experience wind. McCormick Place's indoor lot is the underground Lot C, at the Lakeside Center on the east side of Lake Shore Drive.

Q: best way to get to lot A from NW side
A:

The "best way" is affected by the day and the time of day you intend to attend the show. The simplest way, from the northwest side, is to follow I-90/94 to northbound I-55 [Lake Shore Drive prompt], then exit at Martin Luther King Drive. Signs and traffic police will direct you from there to Lot A parking.

Q: In your opinion, where is the best place to park, money wise and walking distance, this is a weekend question. We are driving from the NW suburbs in 2 vehicles.
A:

That can only be answered subjectively. From the two lots closest to the show floor, Lot A and Lot C, you'll walk to the show. From the remote lots, Lot B and Soldier Field, free shuttles will deliver you right to the door at McCormick Place. If you're counting steps, the remote lots might be a better bet. Daytime parking costs $19  in Lots A and C and $14 in Lot B. At 6 p.m., the rate at all three lots drops to $10.

On WEEKENDS ONLY, the show also operates free shuttles from Millennium Park, where you can park and ride a free shuttle bus to McCormick Place. The auto show is negotiating a favorable parking rate there to park Feb. 11, 12, 18 and 19.

Q: Hi - what will parking cost for Saturday, Feb 11? Thanks
A:

Depends where you park. Parking in two lots that surround McCormick Place--Lot A and Lot C, cost $19 until 6 p.m., when the rate drops to $10. Lot B, which enters from 31st Street, costs $14 during the day, then it also drops to $10 at 6 p.m.

Auto show officials have arranged for WEEKEND ONLY shuttles to operate from the Millennium Park Garage (http://www.millenniumgarages.com), where the Chicago Auto Show negotiated a $14 rate for its visitors. Pay the parking, then ride free shuttles to/from McCormick Place.

Weekend free shuttles
Q: Where exactly does one catch the free weekend shuttle from the Grant Park garages? Somewhere on Michigan?
A:

As a weekend alternative on WEEKENDS ONLY, showgoers can park at the Millennium and East Monroe Garages for $14 (subject to change) and ride free shuttles to the show.  The underground garage entrances are easy to find:

Millennium Park Garage -- The automobile entrance for the Millennium Garage is on South Columbus Drive between Monroe Street (from the south, heading north) and Randolph Street (from the north, heading south).

East Monroe Garage -- The automobile entrance for the Monroe Garage is on South Columbus Drive between Monroe Street (from the south, heading north) and Randolph Street (from the north, heading south).

Furthermore, free shuttles stop in 10-15 minute intervals at both the Upper Randolph / Lower Randolph pedestrian exits.

Q: Are the shuttle buses from millennium park free if not what is the fee?
A:

Yep, the shuttles are free, and the parking cost is less than at the lots surrounding McCormick Place. But remember, those shuttles operate on WEEKENDS ONLY.

Free shuttles also operate daily from McCormick Place's 31st Street lot (Lot B) and from the Soldier Field lots.

Q: is there public trnsportation from niles
A:

In a word, yes! The breadth of public transportation opportunities to use to reach McCormick Place can be found at http://www.rtachicago.com.

Q: What time are the free shuttles on weekend(Saturday and Sunday)?
A:

The shuttle service coincides with the auto show hours, so expect to see the first buses about 10 a.m. at Millennium Park each of the four weekend mornings--Feb. 11, 12, 18 and 19--and running till about 10:30 p.m. the first three days just mentioned, and about 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 19.

Q: Is there a free shuttle from Chinatown? I have heard in years past there was one.
A:

No free shuttles from Chinatown. Instead, you're a $2.25 cash fare away from the show (less than $2.25 with a farecard) using the CTA's #21 Cermak bus. That line operates from the West Side and Near West Suburbs east on Cermak, every 10 -15 minutes through mid-evening daily and every 20 minutes in the later evening. #21 Cermak shuttle buses operate to the show from the Orange Line Halsted station every 15 minutes on weekends only.

Q: Is there available storage for strollers on the Millennium Park weekend shuttles? If not can one be carried onto the shuttle?
A:

The buses' overhead bins can store lightweight umbrella strollers. Anything more than that probably is more than the buses can accommodate.

Cameras/Photography
Q: Can I take pictures of the displays? Are cameras allowed?
A:

Cameras are permitted, welcomed, encouraged. Enjoy the show!

Q: Are there limits to the types of cameras I can bring?
A:

Use of photography equipment that does not intrude on your fellow show-goers -- cameras, camcorders, camera phones and the like --  is fine by us. Just don't plan to take any crane shots, Mr. Spielberg.

Handicapped issues
Q: what is the closest parking lot, with the shortest walking distance to the shows main floor entrance? What is the closest lot for handicap accessibility?
A:

For those who count steps, the shortest walk does not necessarily originate from the closest lot. Shuttles that operate from remote lots deliver show-goers right to the building, so that actually means less shoe leather than walking from nearer lots. All the lots have stalls reserved for handicapped occupants.

But to answer your question precisely, the parking lot closest to the show floor without involving shuttle buses is Lot A, whose entrance is at I-55 and Martin Luther King Drive.

Q: can I rent a wheel chair because my wife is pregnant and really cant walk for a long time?
A:

Without a reservation, the availability of wheelchairs and motorized scooters is limited and on a first-come basis at Gate 4 of McCormick Place (west end of the Grand Concourse).

Reservations using a Visa or MasterCard can be placed with Scootaround Mobility Solutions, 1-888-441-7575. Motorized scooters are $50 a day; wheelchairs are $20.

Also, see the company's Web site, www.scootaround.com

Q: I have a have a handicap parking question. I am trying to find out where do you go for handicap parking and are there shuttle buses to the show from the parking lot. Thank you for any help Jim G
A: American Sightseeing Chicago operates the trolley shuttles at the lots near McCormick Place: the 31st Street lot (Lot B in McCormick-speak) and the Soldier Field lots. To secure a shuttle with chairlift capacity, call American Sightseeing at 800-621-4153 when you park, and the company will dispatch one to you.

Q: will there be motorized scooters or carts, etc to help handicapped people get around the show?
A:

Scooter and Wheelchair rentals are available by contacting Scootaround's toll-free hotline at 1-888-441-7575. You can also submit a rental inquiry on the web at www.scootaround.com, or by fax at (204) 478-1172. Scooter rentals are $50 a day and Wheelchair rentals are $20 a day. Scootaround is happy to accept VISA or MasterCard.

Scootaround is located at Gate 4 of McCormick Place (west end of the Grand Concourse). While Scootaround will make every effort to accommodate all needs, you are encouraged to reserve in advance.

Q: My father is disabled and has his own motor scooter. He's wondering if he can bring his own scooter, or are you required to rent one?
A:

Your father is welcome to bring his own scooter to the show! Otherwise, he can rent one from the firm that has the contract at McCormick Place, Sootaround Mobility Solutions. Rentals are $50 a day. Call 1-888-441-7575.

Q: Is there handicapped parking available in the lots adjacent to McCormick Place?
A: Yes, all McCormick Place parking lots include a number of stalls reserved for handicapped parkers.

Q: how much dose it cost to park at the parking decks, and how much space is offered for handicapped.Thank you Mike
A:

In McCormick-speak, the parking deck is named Lot A. Parking there costs $19 until 6 p.m., when the rate drops to $10. The rates are the same for standard and handicapped stalls. Don't have an exact number of handicapped stalls; direct that question to Standard Parking, which operates the lots, at (312) 274-2110 during weekday business hours.

Q: Do I need to call ahead for a regular wheelchair?
A: Securing a reservation is advisable. Supplies of the manual wheelchairs cannot otherwise be guaranteed.

Q: I have an electric wheelchair - can i be droped at the door where the cab come in. I am on oxygen which i have for myself.
A:

Yes, you can be dropped off at the horseshoe-shaped taxi stand that is accessible at Martin Luther King Drive and what essentially is 23rd Street. Just show your handicap placard to police directing traffic there, if the vehicle's license plate doesn't include the symbol, and the police will give you access to the taxi area.

King Drive runs north/south, separating the McCormick Place North/South and McCormick Place West facilities, and the taxi stand is about equidistant between Cermak Road (22nd Street) and the Stevenson Expressway. There is a six-story parking garage across King Drive where your driver can park (Lot A, in McCormick-speak).

Q: My husband can walk but cannot use the escalator. Can he use the elevator or stairs. A few years ago it seemed to be a problem and they did not want us to use the elevator.
A:

The elevators operate during the entirety of the Chicago Auto Show. Temporary malfunctions can cause brief interruptions, however. That must be what you encountered previously.

Q: My wife has just gotten a assistance dog to help her will the dog be allowed into the show.
A:

Yes, assistance dogs are permitted in the show.

Q: are strollers for children rented at show
A:

Nope, just strollers and wheelchairs. You'd have to bring your own child stroller.

Q: My wife is handycapped and need assistance in using the rest room facilities. Is there handycap facilities where mix gender can go into such as famaly room facilities. Thanks.
A: There appears to be one restroom on the building's fourth floor, near Room S400, that accommodates one, er, customer at a time. Otherwise, all the restrooms are for multiple users of the same gender.

Transportation / Hotels
Q: What is the most convenient way to travel to the show?
A:

Depends where your trip originates! While there's ample parking around McCormick Place, we always encourage the use of public transportation, especially on the weekends.

Q: Transportation and the closest hotels.
A:

The Hyatt Regency McCormick Place, at 2233 S. Martin Luther King Dr., adjoins the convention center facility. For room rates and availability, call the hotel at 312-567-1234.

The auto show has secured favorable room rates of $115 a night at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, a few miles north of McCormick Place. For more on the hotel, click on About the Show, the leftmost category along the bar at the top of the homepage's screen, then follow the drop-down menu to Official Hotel.

To get the rate, be certain to mention the Chicago Auto Show when making your reservation.

Q: if i was coming to the autoshow by train what train should i take? cta blue line or cta green line or should i take metra?
A:

The Metra Electric Line stops at McCormick Place. For a thorough list of the various Metra lines and their schedules, go to www.metrarail.com.

Q: To use the shuttle bus from the Millennium Park garage, do I have to actually park at that location and show some type of receipt to get on the bus? We will be staying at a hotel near Millennium Park and could easily walk over to catch the shuttle bus, though we may not actually park our car at Millennium Park if the hotel offers free (or discounted) parking on the weekend.
A:

Signs at the Millenimum Park garage entrances indicate where the shuttles pick up and drop off showgoers. If you can get there, the driver won't ask you to confirm you parked there.

Q: You mentioned that the hotels that you secured are a few miles from the venue. Is it "preferable" to stay at a hotel that is a few miles away, versus a closer hotel? I would rather rely on transportation to & from the show, than to get there & find my hotel is in a less desirable location. Thank you
A:

"Preferences" are an individual thing. But if you have no transportation to the hotels about three miles north of McCormick Place, then it makes sense to select the Hyatt-McCormick Place, which adjoins the convention center.

The auto show has arranged for free shuttle service between the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers and McCormick Place each day of the auto show. Buses run about every 15 minutes from 8-11 a.m. and again from 9-11 p.m.

Q: What is the charge for parking in Lot A during the show?Should parking be available in Lot A on Friday a.m.?Thanks
A:

Parking in Lot A, the multilevel garage at Cermak Road and Martin Luther King Drive, costs $19 until 6 p.m., when the charge drops to $10, according to Standard Parking, which owns and operates all the lots surrounding McCormick Place. Demand varies, and availability is subject to when you reach the lot. If it is full, traffic cops will direct you to another lot.

Q: How often does the shuttle from the Millenium Park Underground Garage run on Sunday, Feb. 12? Also, what time does the shuttle start that morning?
A:

At peak hours, 12 buses serve the route between Millenium Park and McCormick Place, delivering riders to Gate 2 at the show. Waits should not exceed 15 minutes, unless traffic surrounding McCormick Place slows things down.

Q: I am flying in to see the show. Are there shuttles from Ohare that would go to McCormicks Place and about how much would a taxi cost from Ohare to Mccormick place?
A:

There are no shuttles dedicated to run between O'Hare and McCormick Place. The airport is about 22 miles from the convention center, so a taxi fare would be about $55 plus tip.

If I were you, I would board the Chicago Transit Authority's Blue Line at the airport and ride that for $2.25 to the Loop (the city's downtown business district), then take an approximate $17 cab ride from there to McCormick Place.

Q: I was wondering if i would be able to access the shuttle from Millineum parking Garage, if i dont park my car there? Is there a Fee? how much?
A: When you reach the parking garage, you'll see signs that direct you to where the free shuttles pick up to deliver you to McCormick Place. Driver won't ask you where you parked. Remember, the free shuttle from Millenium Park operates on WEEKENDS only.

Q: We're coming to the show on the South Shore. Where will our stop be and will there be much walking and/or any shuttles, buses to take after getting off the South Shore..
A:

All details this site could offer you about traveling to the show via Metra are examined in Metra's own Web site, www.metrarail.com/  The stop at McCormick Place deposits travelers at the Grand Concourse, steps from the entrances to the Chicago Auto Show. Q: Can I bring a cooler on wheels to carry things? Can I bring in food or drink? Thank You
A:

Coolers on wheels are not permitted in the show, and all bags are subject to search at the entrances. Don't plan to bring a whole pizza through the doors, but a sandwich or two is probably OK.

Remember, cameras and other photographic equipment are welcomed and encouraged!

Q: I am bringing 100 senior citizens in the first of next week. I know that you have a food court - it seemed to me that you exited the east entrance and took escalators to the floor below. Is this correct? I see you have additional space, is this across from that east entrance? I need to give them the option to go sit and enjoy a lunch off of their feet, even though I have told them that it is a day of walking. We will be entering at the bus entrance and going up the escalator to begin the show. Thanks Bob Mogler
A:

There are two elevated food courts on the show floor in the South hall, and another large food court on the show floor in the North hall.

There also are restaurants in both halls beneath the show floor. Bon appetite!

First Look for Charity
Q: Can women navigate the floor in high heels? I noticed from last year's photos that most women seemed to be wearing them. Thanks!
A:

A goodly number of women who start the evening in high heels eventually take them off and carry them. There is a lot of walking to do on a show floor that measures 1.2 million square feet, so you wouldn't be disparaged for wearing flats.

But as "Saturday Night Live's" Fernando used to say, "It is better to look good than to feel good, my darling."

Q: We will be attending the First Look for Charity event on Thursday. Is valet parking be available?
A:

Sorry, valet parking is not available, and there is little the auto show management can do to change that. We rent the interior of McCormick Place; the exterior is controlled by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority and Standard Parking.

If you park in the 31st Street lot (Lot B), a shuttle bus will deliver you to the building. The other options—parking garages off Martin Luther King Drive (Lot A) and beneath the Lakeside Center (Lot C)—are a short enclosed walk to the auto show floor.

As its name implies, admission to the Media Preview is for media. Qualified media may apply for credentials in advance using this Web site, or at the auto show's Media Center beginning, Room N426, beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Qualified media know who they are. If, say, you work for a newspaper's circulation department, that won't cut it.

Annual food drive
Q: I see there is a discount if you bring in canned food on particular days. What is the discount?
A:

$4 off an adult's $11 admission is granted when you bring three canned goods to the show on WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15, THURSDAY, FEB. 16 AND FRIDAY, FEB. 17.

If you bring canned foods on another day, you'll receive a heartfelt thanks from the auto show but no discount.

Q: Are the only discounts during the week, are for the canned foods? What if I bring in 6 cans is the admission free? thx
A:

If you bring 3 cans, you'll get to enter for $4 off the regular $11 adult admission, or $7. If you bring 6 cans, you'll get an enthusiastic "Thanks!" from show organizers--and the discounted admission as described above.

All the show's various discounted admission offers are for weekdays only. No discounts exist for weekends.

Q: Do senior citizens get a discount off their $7 admission cost if they bring in 3 cans of food Feb.15-17?
A:

No, there are no $3 tickets. The food drive offers a $4 discount off a regular adult admission of $11. If seniors bring canned foods, they'll get a hearty "Thanks!" but no further discount to their $7 senior tickets.

Q: Is it canned foods only, or any non-perishable items?
A:

Please limit your donation to canned foods. Items like a bag of egg noodles wouldn't stand a chance when everything gets loaded onto the truck. The food drive is expected to collect more than 5 tons of food for A Safe Haven.

Q: Can you purchase your tickets on line and still be eligable for the canned food discount? Can you bring canned food and receive a refund at the door?if tickets are purchased on line?thanksREW
A:

No, you'll pay full-price for the tickets you buy online, and no amount of such a purchase is refundable. If you want to take advantage of discounted admission related to the food drive, you must present three cans at a food drive collection point at McCormick Place. Volunteers there on Feb. 15-17 will give you a voucher for discounted tickets at the show's box offices.

Q: If a family of 4 (2 adults & 2 children ages 8 and 11) goes to the show on Fri. the 17th and each person in the family brings 3 canned food items then each person will receive $4 off the ticket price? So the price would be $7 for the adults and $3 for the children, correct? Thank you.
A:

The discount is $4 off a regular $11 adult admission, not simply $4 off all tickets. In your scenario, by 4 people bringing a total of 12 cans of food, you could enter for $28 [2 adults @ $7 each, 2 children ages 7-12 @ $7 each.] You therefore also could enter for $28 by bringing 6 cans instead (3 cans for each adult). But bringing the extra 6 cans could give you a warmer feeling about the food drive!

Q: It seems like if you have cars driving inside a building all day that the air could be a little tainted by the end of the day and some people with certain allegies or breathing problems could have some trouble throughout the day. What is in place to prevent fumes from overpowering the building.
A:

Officials from the auto show and McCormick Place are excited about the tracks and take all precautions to ensure the safety and enjoyment of guests. Many exhaust fans above the test tracks whisk away vehicle emissions, and carbon monoxide levels are monitored continually to make sure they are healthful.

That's not a question that the auto show management can answer on behalf of all the personalities. Their appearances are arranged for by whichever automobile manufacturer's display they appear at, so their latitudes likely will differ.

Temporary employment
Q: Who do I contact regarding employment during the auto show?
A:

The Chicago Auto Show management does not hire individuals. Rather, it retains firms that provide ushers and security. For such work, contact AF Services, (630) 279-0500. Many other workers in the building are employees of McCormick Place, (312) 791-7000.

People who set up and dismantle the displays are arranged for by the show's general contractor, GES Exposition Services, (773) 767-2237 or chicago@ges.com

As for the people who work in the various exhibits, they are hired by the vehicle manufacturers, like Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge. For those opportunities, suggest you turn to the Web sites of the vehicle manufacturers and search the sites either for Employment or Contact Us.

Q: Hi, I need info about promo models and who to talk to about working the show.
A:

Chicago Auto Show management does not hire models; they are retained by the exhibitors themselves: Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, etc. The automakers turn primarily to three Detroit-area agencies and hire models months before the auto show in order to train them. You can inquire about modeling on the auto show circuit by contacting the modeling agencies:

Affiliated Models, Inc., Southfield, Mich., (248) 799-5070, www.affiliatedgroup.com/

Gail & Rice Productions, Southfield, Mich., (248) 799-5000, www.gail-rice.com/

Productions Plus, Birmingham, Mich., (800) 437-9815, www.productions-plus.com/

Good luck!
