Chicago . . . so much more than just a car show

Posted by: Mark Bilek

At more than 60,000 square feet, the Chevrolet display is the largest single-make display at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show and, from the looks of it, the bowtie brand intends to make the most of every square inch. Interactive displays, live DJs, timesplice photography, even a Facebook application that allows participants to plant a virtual tree will augment the display of vehicles.

Here's a rundown of the specific exhibit enhancements:

  • Destination display offering consumers access to engaging experiences inspired by the key product messages of Volt
  • Photo booth that places your image inside a backdrop of local fun "places you can go" in the Volt. Images are fed to a large Volt LED wall and are shareable via Facebook & Twitter.
  • Interactive touchscreen lets users select from one of six drive destinations that speaks to the Volt's extended drive range.
  • Digital information hub offering the ability to send product videos, brochures and photos to a user's email address.
  • Touch based survey that measures public enthusiasm and preferences around the two Chevy concept vehicles.
  • Sonic experience includes Sonic Boom DJ interactive experience, Sonic White Board, Sonic Buttons and vehicle configurator.
  • Timesplice photo activity that captures a single image from an angle of approximately 120-degrees. The software program stitches the image sequence together to create a 3D clip the participant can immediately share with friends via Facebook, Twitter, email and SMS.
  • Facebook application that allows participants to plant a virtual tree as part of a Chevrolet-sponsored carbon reduction program.
  • Touchscreen interactive offering three user-initiated videos that provide overviews of  MYLINK capabilities
  • A stand-up touch screen display for users to explore the benefits of the OnStar mobile app, while a live presenter demonstrates the functionality on a demo vehicle.

All of this is in addition to an approximately two-mile Volt test-drive activity on the streets of Chicago. Ability to capture immediate impressions of the drive via hand-held video and in-car cameras that will play within the Volt Village upstairs..

Thank you, Chevrolet, for making a can't miss display at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.
