With women purchasing more than half of all vehicles, it's not surprising that Tuesday, Feb. 12, has again been designated Women's Day at the Chicago Auto Show. Assistance and guidance for women in a multitude of automotive topics will be offered.
"This has become a great tradition for our show," said Auto Show Chairman Bob Loquercio. "Many of our exhibitors will offer special Women's Day seminars to help female customers be better equipped to make their transportation decisions. From the Chicago Auto Show side of the day, we'll open our doors to all women for half off the regular $10 admission fee for a ticket."
"We're also thrilled," said Loqercio, "to partner with Mother Proof, which will present not only its first-ever awards, but also a series of seminars for women it has crafted to run throughout the day. Whether the topic is safety, maintenance, car care or negotiation, the day's seminars and programs will help inform women and make them feel more comfortable about the process."
To many women, selecting a vehicle that's right for them can be an overwhelming process. But not to Kristin Varela, chief mom and senior editor at Mother Proof, a car review Web site dedicated to helping women and mothers navigate the automotive world's features most important to them and their families. The site is www.motherproof.com. Varela and her team of mom-reviewers are bringing that advice from the Web to the Chicago Auto Show, where they will be on hand at the show to offer female attendees their unique perspective.
At this year's show, Mother Proof will present the Mama Said Cafe, a casual, coffee-shop like exhibit that will showcase the website's picks for the top, new family vehicles for 2008 while treating attendees to expert advice, interactive games, free coffee and an interactive kids play area.
"Women purchase 53 percent of new cars and influence 85 percent of all car sales decisions. But by and large, automotive reviews and car buying advice is still generated by men and often geared to automotive enthusiasts" said Varela. "The women of Mother Proof are excited to share their perspective, from one woman consumer to another, in a relaxed and inviting café environment at the Chicago Auto Show. That's what our site is all about, sharing advice, one girlfriend to another."
Mother Proof's activities kick-off with presentation of the 2008 Mother Proof awards, followed by a complete day of programming, including a line-up of industry experts who will share car buying tips and safety information. Topics will include tips on raising a responsible teen-age driver, trends in car design and color and things to research before walking into a showroom.
Kids don't need to take a backseat at the Mama Said Café. A vehicle design expert from Chrysler will be on hand to inspire budding design talent, teaching kids to draw and design their own vehicles.
