Chevrolet Offers a Little Spark

Posted by: Jessica Coulter

When envisioning a sixteen-year-old girl's dream car, you may think of a car that is small, cute, and a fun color-very much like the 2013 Chevrolet Spark, scheduled to hit showroom floors this summer. You will be able to get the Spark in eight unique colors, including shades called jalapeño, lemonade, techno pink, and denim.  The mini car fits a young girl's personality perfectly.  But what about the male consumers? When looking at the Spark, you can't exactly picture a guy sitting behind the wheel.  So how does Chevrolet plan to promote the Spark to the men in the market for a new ride?

A popular talking point for today's generation is fuel efficiency in vehicles.  The 2013 Chevy Spark will get 40 miles to each gallon on the highway, something any vehicle owner would be able to appreciate. The car is also a great city vehicle, making it a breeze to parallel park in even the smallest spot. This relieves the driver of having to circle the block for 15 minutes looking for a spot big enough for your SUV or large sedan.

When I asked the product specialist how they think males will react to the Spark, they don't seem to have any worry about marketing to men.  The ladies made an interesting comparison.  In their opinion, it's similar to men using lap dogs to get the attention of good-looking women.  They also believe that if a guy has the guts to drive around a mini car, they must be very confident in themselves! For those self-aware men who are interested in purchasing the Chevy Spark, there are more masculine colors such as black granite metallic, silver metallic, and salsa red.

When the Spark hits the showroom floors this summer, weighing in at a mere 2,300 pounds, we will see how the male population reacts to the mini car.  I imagine young girls all over the country will be begging their parents for a gleaming pink Chevrolet Spark, but we will have to wait and see how many men are confident enough to walk out of their local Chevy dealer with keys to this stylish little car.
