The First Look Charity Event for the Chicago Auto Show on Thursday February 9th had everything the guests would ever need: fun entertainment, delicious food, and great company. It was prom all over again. Except instead of that local garage band, the musical talent was legendary blues rock band Blues Traveler. And instead of the girls trading in their heels for a pair of socks, they received comfy slippers handed out by Cadillac. And instead of posing awkwardly next to the fireplace for pictures ...you posed next to some of the most expensive cars in America.
Our intern group was ecstatic to strut on the carpet of the showroom floor along with the attendees from 18 area nonprofit charities. We felt like celebrities for a night taking pictures in our fancy gowns next to a Lamborghini, then a Lexus, then stop for fondue, and then continuing onto the Mercedes-Benz exhibit with a glass of champagne in hand.
Prior to Blues Traveler hitting the stage event organizers announced that the night had raised more than $2 million for 18 local charities and then proceeded to give away a Cadillac SRX and Escalade to two lucky attendees. The winners walked to the stage with disbelief, finding it unimaginable that they were actually getting the chance to take home a Cadillac Escalade and a Cadillac SRX. Being able to witness someone win a contest with a prize like that is a reason to celebrate all in its own.
