Ever imagine yourself outrunning law enforcement and a bunch of competitors in a banzai run across the country? Well, you'll soon be able to, at least in digital form.

Formally announced to be available this November is the latest edition of the Need for Speed series, titled simply "The Run." The goal, avoid police and beat competitors in a cross country race from San Francisco to New York City. What makes this installment of NFS unique is that players assume a character, in this case Jack. Meaning that The Run won't just be an arcade smash 'em up or a straight simulation, but a blending of the two into a mission-based journey across the country.

Just as impressive will be your choice of steed. Here's a list of what's currently confirmed to be available: Audi R8 Coupé 5.2 FSI Quattro, BMW E92 M3 GTS, BMW M3 E30 Sport Evolution, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Dodge Challenger R/T, Ford Mustang Boss 302, Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake, Lamborghini Aventador, Mazda MX-5 & McLaren MP4-12C.

The Need for Speed franchise is arguably the oldest and longest-running driving/racing simulation. Given the graphics and game-play quality of the current NFS release, Shift 2, The Run promises to be both graphically stunning and eminently playable. Given the epic proportions of the quest this might just be the biggest hit of them all.

Long story short, I haven't been this excited about the release of a racing-inspired video game since Gran Turismo 4 back in 2005. Here's the trailer.
