Last night was First Look for Charity at the Auto Show, and it was one of the fanciest events I’ve ever attended. Everyone looked beautiful last night and we certainly loved getting all glammed up for the black tie affair.
Dale Levitski from Top Chef walked into the media center last night before the festivities began. He was a contestant on "Top Chef Miami" and the more recent "Top Chef: All Stars" on Bravo. Dale is also executive chef at Sprout Restaurant in Chicago. Devotees will remember Dale as one of the funniest and most entertaining chefs on that show, so I was really excited to meet him. We all talked for a little bit with him about being on set, working with Padma Lakshmi and why in the world he was bumped off the show early. He had a great sense of humor about everything and was happy to take a picture with us.
The reason Dale was there last night was to judge a cake competition hosted by Cadillac called, "The Cadillac of Cakes." Three Chicago bakeries, TipsyCake, Bleeding Heart Bakery and Roeser’s Bakery created cakes for the contest inspired by the luxury vehicle company. The winner, Bleeding Heart Bakery, made an awesome mad scientist-inspired creation. It was tough to choose between the three but this one definitely, um, takes the cake.
Tables were set up all around the show floor with food inspired by different countries, as well as drink tables serving all kinds of fun beverages. I stayed pretty close to the sushi, which was right next to the sorbet martini table. (Whoever planned that placement, I applaud you.) However, I did stray for a bit when I heard about the pretzel rolls at the Germany table.
We all had a fabulous time together last night. The week has been a lot of hard work, complete with late nights, early mornings and unforgiving high heels. Last night was a great chance to enjoy the show, the food and the company of each other.
