Every vehicle that I have ever owned (and I've owned a lot of vehicles) has let me down.
There was the petite Skylark that died every time I turned left, the Cadillac with failing power steering and the Taurus with windshield wipers that never shut off. The only vehicle I ever owned that didn't give me a headache was the obnoxiously blue Astro Van that it beat out any classic teenager's hand-me-down minivan as the most embarrassing vehicle to drive to school.
As humiliating as they were, these are the cars that brought me to Bradley University in 2005 to pursue a degree in Public Relations, the trunk loaded with laundry baskets full of clean clothes and economy packs of Kraft macaroni and cheese. They took me to sorority brunches, intramural softball games and late night coffee runs.
I currently drive a 1994 Plymouth Voyager and though it is not a pretty car, it gets me to and from my internship, my part-time job and it even gets me to class on those rainy, snowy and lazy days. It has its own flaws, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will make it May, when I will finally graduate and hopefully begin a career in the public relations industry.
Now, I may not know the difference between a four-cylinder and six-cylinder engine or even how to use a tire gauge, but I definitely know cars with character and that is what I plan to share with everyone when the Chicago Auto Show comes around.
