Let’s Take a Selfie… A Car Selfie

Posted by: Ashley Alletto

The Chicago Auto Show has changed a lot since its grand opening on March 23, 1901. It has kept up right alongside society and all the technological changes going on around us. If you had probably told someone back then that one day you would be able to sit in a car at the show and virtually drive they would have laughed at you.

It makes your head spin to think of all of the things people can do from their cell phone these days. In order to keep on track with the times people need to make sure to stay on top of the latest and greatest technology has to offer. The car dealers at the Chicago Auto Show have made sure to do just that.

Upon first arrival guests should download the Chicago Auto Show app, which pars with Bluetooth allowing people to get text updates to their phone as they walk the floor.  If you still prefer physical maps that is available to you in the show guide that’s available for free to every attendee.

Looking at the specific car exhibits, each one has put their own fun twist on making the experience as easy and informative as possible. One car feature that people look for in their new car is to be able to pair their phone with their car for a hands free experience. It is one thing to read and hear a floor representative talk about it; it is another to see how it works for yourself. Hyundai has set up two vehicles so when you sit inside of them they will pair up with your apple or android device.

Chevrolet, Volkswagen, Toyota Mini Cooper, Scion, State Farm all joined in on the selfie movement and gave people the option of taking them and sharing on social media, which enters them to win prizes. Mini Cooper has a green screen set up where you can get a video recorded of you sitting in the a Mini Cooper Convertible  “racing” down a hill against other Mini vehicles. Nothing makes you more excited about a new car then getting the chance to test all the seats in a racing scenario.

With all of the fancy cars your phone battery maybe low, but don’t worry most exhibits feature charging stations. Just plug in and enjoy the cars from the driver’s seat as driving is meant to be… hands free.
