2010 Buick Regal GS Show CarWere you drooling over the Buick Regal GS show car at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show? Well, now you'll soon be able to drive one. Today, at a media event in California, Dayna Hart from Buick PR confirmed production of the Regal GS with the simple statement, "At wave 1 of our drive program for Regal we just confirmed that the Regal GS will be added to the Buick portfolio. We are not providing any additional details at this point."

For those of you who might not remember, the Regal is Buick's latest offering. It's slightly smaller than the LaCrosse and aimed at a decidedly younger audience. Developed in Germany, the Regal will be available with either a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 182 horsepower or a turbocharged 2.0-liter four with 220 horsepower. Both engines have a 6-speed automatic transmission standard with driver-shifting control. Standard features include 18-inch wheels, leather and heated front seats, XM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth and OnStar.

The Regal GS show car sported additional vertical front air intakes, forged aluminum 20-inch wheels and performance tires, a racing-inspired sport steering wheel, metal pedals, and Recaro high-performance front seats.

Power for the Regal GS comes from a high-output version of the turbocharged four, tuned to produce 255 horsepower. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission that directs torque to an all-wheel-drive system. An electronic, limited-slip rear differential helps ensure the engine's power is distributed effectively during cornering. The high-performance drivetrain is expected to enable the Regal GS to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds.

No word on when Regal GS will arrive in showrooms.
