One of the stars of the FCA display at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show was the all-new Jeep Compass. Replacing both the Patriot and previous-generation Compass, the 2017 model is new from the top down. It slots into the Jeep lineup between the subcompact Renegade and the compact Cherokee.

Jeep's first "global" product, the Compass is built in four different factories with the U.S. models being assembled in Mexico. Four trim levels are offered: Sport, Latitude, Trailhawk and Limited. All get a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 180 horsepower. Front- and four-wheel-drive models will be offered with either a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic or nine-speed automatic transmission.

Two four-wheel-drive systems will be offered. Most models get the Active-Drive system, which offers automatic four-wheel drive that's suitable for most on-road situations. Trailhawk models get Active-Drive Low. This system includes a low range for off-road slogging.

Available features include a gloss-black roof, dual-pane sunroof, 7-inch driver information display and 17-, 18- or 19-inch wheels. Safety equipment includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning and blind-spot alert. The 2017 Compass is the first FCA model to get FCA's second-generation Uconnect system with integration of Android Auto and Apple Car Play.

The new Compass is available at dealerships now with a starting price of just $20,995. Check out the new Compass on DriveChicago.com
